Karnataka spending Rs 700 crore on Old Age Pension

 The Karnataka government was spending over Rs 700 crore per year on 'Sandhya Suraksha', a scheme to help senior citizens, the Legislative Council was informed here.

 In a written reply to BJP member Ganesh Karnik, revenue minister G Karunakara Reddy, informed that as many as 14.95 lakh beneficiaries were receiving cash assistance of Rs 400 per month under the scheme.
While Belgaum district registered the highest number of 1,40,747 beneficiaries, Bangalore Urban followed with 92,863. The newly formed Yadagir district had the least number of beneficiaries numbering 17,301 beneficiaries, he said.

The minister also informed the members that the government was yet to clear the payment under the scheme to another 36,348 people, who had appliced for old-age pension in all the 30 districts in the state---UNI
